風立ちぬ (かぜたちぬ Kaze Tachinu) was meant to be Hayao Miyazaki's final opus. Like so many great artists of his age, he returns to World War II, a pivotal moment in Japanese history, to tell the story of Jiro Horikoshi, an idealistic man enamoured with airplanes and their promise to the future, who must create instruments of war for the sake of his country.
